Every 4th of July here in Pensacola is Blue Angel Weekend. A way for the Blues to thank the public of Pensacola for the support through the year. They hold the event out at the beach and for three days you can see the practices and airshow. Our kids have disliked going in the past b/c of the loud noise, but this year they seemed to handle it. Of course, Adeline had no idea what she was in for. We go to the bay side of the beach(Quietwater Cove), since once the airshow starts the beach side is prohibited from going in the water. We have gone to the main beach in the past and been forced to sit under the umbrellas for the entire length of the show along with the other 10,000 beachcombers. Then the second the show is over, the lifeguards blow the whistles and we all run into the giant redneck saltwater port-a-potty. Rick swears he could feel the water temperature rise a few degrees. So, we have forgone that beach with a great view, for the less crowded one right next to Bamboo Willies so we can get a frozen Bushwhacker while we watch. For those not local, a bushwhacker is a chocolaty drink made with every conceivable liquor and tastes like a milkshake, so beware.
Fat Albert kicks off the show and when the low hum of the C-130 approaches I can't help but get nostalgic for Rick's days of flying that plane. The kids love him b/c he's "quiet" and easy to spot in the sky.
When the Blues started the kids all plugged their ears and to our surprise so did Adeline. She's pretty resourceful for a 1 year old.
Anytime you want to visit the Blues shows are in July and November and are worth the trip.
